An intake door that’s open
A door a person can walk up to when they find a dog on 153, instead of tying it to a tree or leaving it at a trailhead.
Methow Valley · Okanogan County, Washington
North Cascades Animal Refuge · An initiative of Indigo Unlimited, a 501(c)(3) public charity
Okanogan County has no public shelter. Dogs and cats are dumped on Forest Service roads, in orchards and along Highway 153. We’re building a small, staffed intake door so people have somewhere to bring them.
01 · The refuge
We’re standing up a rural intake site for dumped and homeless animals in the lower Methow and greater Okanogan County: short holds, real foster homes and clinic days with partners who already do the work.
A door a person can walk up to when they find a dog on 153, instead of tying it to a tree or leaving it at a trailhead.
Short-term holds while animals move to foster homes and adopters, with isolation space so one sick intake doesn’t affect the whole room.
Room for vaccine and spay/neuter days with groups already doing TNR and field work. We don’t replace them. We give them a floor.
02 · The gap
Rescues and clinic teams already stretch across a county the size of some states. What they don’t have is a building with pens, isolation and a place the public knows to bring an animal. That absence is why animals end up on the road.
The refuge is how we close that gap, close to home in Twisp and the Methow Valley.
03 · Get involved
We’re building a list of Methow and Okanogan neighbors who want to help. Reach out and we’ll keep you in the loop.
Open your home for a short stay, one dog or cat at a time, until their family or forever home is found.
Lend a hand with transport, carpentry, setup, clinic days or a skill like design and outreach.
Sponsor a clinic day, keep an info card at your counter, host an event or offer materials and services. See the partner program →
